![]() Also an environment art challenge would be fun, seeing as though some people may have some free time over their Christmas break. Um never mind what I wrote earlier lol. I didn't realise this was a specific challenge... what exactly is a stylised challenge? Last edited by astroAJ; 23-12-2011 at 12:58 AM.. |

The stylized challenge consisted of animals so you could have the topic of dragons, you could then interpret the design of that dragon as you saw fit such as a cartoon style, a comical style, a hyper realistic or ultra fantasy mix, the choice would be yours, you could even have a dragon sitting down having a cup of tea if you so wished lol.
The challenges used to be laid out like this Each month we would select an animal and post some images as reference. Then all you have to do is create a 3d render of this creature in a stylized/abstact/cartoon style whilst keeping your creature instantly recongnizable. We then published some content in 3DCreative Magazine on how to create stylized animals such as you see in the many feature films and cartoon galleries. We thought this regular competition might bring in just the images/making ofs we need whilst giving you the member great exposure in a fantastic magazine. What are we looking for? Funny and humourous entries which break the animal down to its most recognizable components, enphasize these in whichever ways you think best and render your stylized/abstact/cartoon masterpiece. Timeframes and requirements? The rules are pretty laid back: please submit 1x3d render; minor post work is ok; it's up to you if you want to have a background or include some graphical elements or text on your image. Renders of the 1024x1280 should be ok. A new thread will be started at the end of every challenge called the 'VOTING' thread. For a valid entry, just make sure your final image is posted in the 'VOTING' thread before the challenge ends, when the the mods have counted the votes the winners will be announced shortly after that challenge. We require the top 3 winners to submit 'making of' overview articles that will be shown on either 3DTotal or 3DCreative Magazine , these need to show the stages of your creation, different elements and some brief explanation text, of why and how you did what you did. We will format this into some nice looking pages to give you some great exposure and us some quality content. Posting Works in Progress? Each competition will have one main thread that starts with the brief at the top. This is where all entrants post all WIPs give feedback and generally laugh at the crazy ideas that are emerging each month. Please dont start any new threads! Just reply to the one already set up. This is something we are looking to return in the new year so feedback and suggestions will be most welcome for this and the sculpting challenges.

Yes this "should" be exactly the same as the previous stylized challenges, the only difference is they might be 3 week or monthly (we haven't decided on that yet)
I'm putting in my suggestion for a Skyrim challenge both here and the sculpting thead. Feel free to post your suggestions for future challenges. We are looking to re-launch these challenges in the new year both myself and Big-Toe have stepped up to mod the challenges, i'll be stylized mostly, and Big-Toe will run the sculpting as he's much much better than me when it comes to sculpting ![]()

My suggestions are: Fishy’s Sharks Dragonfly’s This challenge will be good for me as I have done very little organic stuff ![]() |

Yes exactly right astroAJ these kind of challenges push members to try modelling things and use new or indeed different techniques to achieve the desired model

I never entered one, but I used to follow the stylized challenges, would be nice to have them back, though I only would enter during holydays, my studies let me no free time

any ideas for the next challenge, I'm thinking shark week, but of course it would be 3 weeks. Could call it shark month if you add in judging time.

Is it always gonna be animals with the stylized challenge?
I really had an awesome time doing the dragons challenge, but I do think that stylization can be applied to anything, including environments and human characters. Everything in this thread for example ![]() |

I'm with Jusslic, even when we run out of animals, we could mix up things.
We could do: - Kids in animals costumes. - Hospital themed one with stylized doctors, nurses, patients. - Bug themed challenge, with spiders, ants and everything else. - Dancers of the 60's with afro hair and those ugly pants hehe - Musical challenge with different animals playing different instruments. I'm nervous already! |
