View Full Version : individual particles in maxscripts

I am trying to control particle positions with external data
and therefore need to set individual particle positions and
velocities. However, in Maxscript I have only found ways to
get information from individual particles. Is there a way to
address and set individual particle properties in Maxscript.
I found the Help from the program inconclusive and couldn't get
anything to work. Of course, I know that it can be done at
the C++ level in the SDK, but I would like to do so on the
script level if that is possible.

Do you need them to be particles? If you're already using scripting to detemine the motion of objects, would it be possible to instead just use instanced objects?

Thanks, I have thought about this. Yes, for many applications I could use instanced objects, however, for example, to use Afterburn, I need particle systems.
I am working on gaseous objects. Any further ideas?

I think you could use Afterburn's Sticky Particles to get the particles to stick to the maxscripted geometry. Then just hide the geometry and render.

Also you could setup a particle system with the geometry as the emitter but give them no speed and only emit one particle.
