Here is my final entry - unfortunately in OpenGL, not done rendering yet due to massive render times. (Using mr-physical lens DOF).

I will have the final render done on monday, and will post it here for you.
For now alll I can show are the stills along with the OpenGL animation.

I concentrated more on the acting part since the sound clip is kind of slow and linear.

Hope you like it!

Is there any way you can set up a poll with everyones names? I think that would be the best way to judge and the easiest too. :D

i'm a new user in this forum and I've been checking this thread for a while now, I for what Ive seen

1st Place: SwedenBalls
Good character animation with sweet camera work. Would of like to see the complete render

2nd Plance: CaptJackass
very close to first. Great animation., meaning the body movement and facial. I didn't like the charater, it looks like a default model.

3rd Place: XYZ
great texture on your model. A bit stiff on the the last two lines of the animation. (... hey everyone..)

I'll see what I can do.

09-07-2006, 05:52 AM
sorry, I can't put a poll in this thread, I would have to start a new one.

09-07-2006, 06:00 AM
First Place: SwedeBalls.
All kinds of godness. The timming is great. Character reminds me of the movie Robots.

Second Place: EdHead.
Mouth movements seemed on point to me, but then I did call XYZ, ZYX.

Third Place: Boristone.
I liked the extra step you took with giving him a black eye. Not sure if you had that done already but that little bit made the line something more.

09-07-2006, 09:10 AM
1st place | EdHead
Everything was really smooth and timed accurately. Great job!

2nd place | CaptJackass
Really close to 1st place as well, but I noticed a few frames where the mouth seemed slightly unnatural. All in all, nice anim! :)

3rd place | Boristone
This one was smooth as well, but I think the mouth movements could have benefited from a little more exaggeration. I agree with Big Toe though that the black eye adds a nice touch. XD

Good job everyone! I look forward to the next competition :smug:

First Place: XYZ
I Think he did a great job with the mouth and sound clip syncing together. Stuck to what this competion was about "Lip Sync", no arms no legs. Even though it was allowed, the Title of the thread was "Speed Animation #9 LIP SYNC (Ron Burgundy)". The only thing is that the eye brows looked kinda funky at some points, but it was no biggie. It made me smile and isn't that why we do this work in the first place :)

Second Place: Me NoahHornberger
I liked all of his facial expressions and way he made the pin come to life good job NoahHornberger. Nothing negative to say was funny.

Third Place: SwedenBalls
The only reason I have him for third (because I know he would have taken first in my book) is because he didn't really do a "Lip Sync". I saw Swedens Demo reel and I think hes amazing, but for this competition I feel he should have stuck with the basics and went straight for the "Lip Sync". His character was talking like the canadians do in southpark... not real "Lip Sync" in my book. I really don't see any problems with his animation... hes amazing and I aspire to get to his level one day.

Great job everybody: I can write a novel on everyones work but I would probably aggro everyone lol. See you all next competition was great fun and its a funny movie, I couldn't resist doing it.

09-07-2006, 11:55 AM
1st XYZ, the carrot has alot of character in it, he looks reallt good
2nd Swedeballs amazing character animation, has so much life in him although hes a robot haha, but edhead does have a point with the whole lip synch thing
3d place Edhead the lip synch was really good, but maybe needed a bit more character

09-07-2006, 12:13 PM
NOTE: My votes are taking in consideration the MOUTH movementes,, and the expressions.

First Place:NoahHornberger
Great job, the head movements are very well done,, and the mouth is very organic, the expressions etc. very nice.

Second Place:Edhead
The mouth movement is very well done,, so smooth and precise.. very good for me, the eye movement is also very well done and funny.. and the expressions. Nice work man,, hope to see you on next challenges.

Third Place:swedeBalls
Even though the mouth only moves up and down,, I mean, it is a "robotic" mouth, the lip sync is very good, and the gestures are great, . . the guy is an actor, a good one.. The only thing is.. haha.. It remainds me somehow ( as edhead said before) to terrance and philip. . hehe, ( by the way,, great short film, , abridged.. good one,, nice animation and render)

special mention for XYZ,, he did a great effort on this one and the results were not bad. . :D

09-07-2006, 03:10 PM
First Place:NoahHornberger
It's the best character animation I have seen in this contest and in my opinion an inspiration for newbies. Great job.
Second Place:swedeBalls
Good idea, very good and funny animation. It's worth to be seen.
Third Place:XYZ
Characterization is good and it makes some funny cartoonistic expressions. A little too static I think, but very good.

I fixed my link too (even too late, but what matters) and even now I'm waiting for suggestions.

Ok my head hurt my eyes burn :D, and in night I will have for shure nightmares with how good they look :shout:

I dwload all movies on my hdd and rename them with evrybody names...and watch them again and again then chose the bests then watch them again and again :D ... first I want to not vote cause I am a beginer and is verry dificult to chose... cause all details confuse me and I can't really focus on lips sync...but then I said well all this is for learning and have fun ...so I tell my opinion ...

First Place: NoahHornberger (http://forums.3dtotal.com/showpost.php?p=473563&postcount=88)
what you liked: the lips move smoot and I think look like it actualy say that
didn't like: to much move on the head and eye, give me dizzy some time :D

Second Place:Edhead (http://forums.3dtotal.com/showpost.php?p=475387&postcount=2)
what you liked: i think it look like it say that, and i like discred face move...
didn't like: the eye roll when he say "i mean really good" look litle unnatural with all discret movement...

Third Place: XYZ (http://forums.3dtotal.com/showpost.php?p=476084&postcount=12)
what you liked: I like that u really give life to a carot :D, the lips move nice, and like soft and discret face and "body :D" move...i really love it :D
didn't like: I was verry verry hungy when I look at the animations... so :dunno: make me... want to eat it :D

PS: If U click on the names U cood se again they'r post ;P

Hey folks,
Thanks for all the positive feedback. Now for the negs, let me say this in my defense about "lipSync".

If this competition was called "morph targets" or "blend shapes" then I would've chosen a different character. As I see it, lipsync applies to syncronizing a character to a sound clip and making it believable through acting. I mean isnt that what animation is all about? - acting?
I see your point though....

My Votes:
1st: XYZ - for a nice looking, believable character and for moving his pupils and turning his head. Maybe you can add some secondary motion on those sprouts - that would be nice.

2nd: STdodo - good key poses man.I like it. For future anims, try hitting one pose and holding it a little, then move on to the next. THat way it seems less "floaty"

3rd: Edhead - I like the second part of your sync. Somewhat floaty movements. And voting for yourself is not recommended.

Thanks guys,
Ill try to join again some time.

10-07-2006, 02:17 AM
ok I changed my self vote and gave it to NoahHornberger.
Oh, and you dont have to put it in the next competion I know now. (I'm not being sarcastic in how I say this lol)

10-07-2006, 02:21 AM
haha, you didn't like the way I changed your post. I thought is was funny.

But on a serious note, you can't vote for yourself because everyone would do it. Also, I didn't put that in the rules because I figured everyone would know that. Common sense.

I'll make sure to put it in the next one. Just for you.

One more thing. If you don't like the changes I made to your post, you can always go back and change it. The dealine for voting isn't here yet, so you can still change the vote you gave yourself too.

10-07-2006, 06:24 AM

Alrighty, time to add'em up.

EdHead, next comp voting will be done with the poll. If anyone wants to give any crits, just post em.

10-07-2006, 06:51 AM

We got a tie, two of'em

First Place: SwedeBalls and XYZ

Second Place: NoahHornBerger and EdHead

Maybe we should have a mouth off to settle this.

10-07-2006, 07:53 AM
weeee! yeah don't think many people voted. Was super fun though, cant wait for the next one big toe! :D gratz XYZ and SwedeBalls on first place! Good job everyone else hope to see you all there next comp!

10-07-2006, 11:27 AM
