18-03-2008, 01:59 AM
The rules here will be simple.

2. Make sure that your idea has not been done already.

4. Have fun and be creative but realistic with the ideas.

20-03-2008, 11:29 AM
Over the years, we've pretty much covered quite the scope of objects that
can be done within a short amount of time. Some of them multiple times.

Instead of reconsidering new objects to model, perhaps changing the
rulesets up a bit would throw some variety back into the mix ?

Ergo, shorten or lengthen the modeling time. Consider perhaps just a
modeling challenge instead of it's speedy counterpart. Model an entire
scene instead of a single device, etc. etc.

Just a thought.

20-03-2008, 03:22 PM
There are a lot of really great ideas already posted here. CG has good ideas for some objects. There have been a lot of environment ideas. It would be cool if we could do some more environments.

Daye also has a great point. Turn it all upside down, reinvent the wheel, as it were.

For example
description:The thing you use to point and click. (not the animal)
sug. time:15 minutes

Just bang somethings out. Pens, wine glasses, lamps, hammers, computer cases, etc., could all be made in an exceedingly short period of time.

Also you could just have a challenge open for a week. No minute limit on it. Make a haunted forest this week... WIPS could be posted along the way, and on the last night of that challenge final entries could be submitted. Probably no more than a week for something like that.

One thing I've noticed is that organics just get left out all together. I remember only one since I've been here, the "bust".

description: Ant, spider, dragonfly, whatever... Make a bug.
sug. time 120 minutes

Something like that is almost the perfect half between inorganic and organic.

Also we could do individual body parts. They needn't all be human. "Hand" for example could encompass many styles/degrees of realism as well as many species. Eyes, nose, mouth, there are many things we haven't touched on yet.

Just some thoughts.

01-04-2008, 09:22 AM

The construction of an APC Mech
It is not an implement of the Classic Battle Tech Universe but as I have been asked for designs of it or the likes, I might aswell see other versions in action and whats better than this wonder of a site with to many to good modelers around!

The APC Mech may be of any design of your choise, as long as it follows the CBT rulings of Mech designs, thou the design made does not have to be a CBT ´Mech. That it has to be of either a Biped-Mech, or Quad-Mech, with the ability to carry upto six (6) (or eight (8)) BA (BattlesuitArmor) onto the field...
If modeling a ´Mech is too extreme within an hour (it must be), an Aerodyne or VTOL (Helo) may be modelled imstead...

just a good idea lended from a request that Masakari of MWLL posted!

Model: Imaginary APC Mech.
Model: Vulture/MadDog converted into an APC carrier.
Model: TimberWolf/MadCat converted into an APC carrier.

16-08-2008, 12:25 PM
Have we done helmets yet? Would give a great variety of choices and styles and should be doable within 60 minutes

Psycho Mantis
18-08-2008, 07:24 AM
Yes helmets where done already. Not long ago.

Another suggestion - let´s model all the same thing, and check for accuracy. Marty posts a photo of an objekt (or preferably some views of the same objekt), and we are about to recreate it in 3d and in a given time. e.G. 30 minutes for a.. aehm... maybe peppermill. Accuracy counts most.

I think its a good practice to learn how to model from a photo (vizualisation) and learn how things are build. From my experience over the years i can say, it helps you to model much faster, when you know about the parts certain objects consist of and how they work togehter. this somehow helps your brain to work organized and logical.

Subject: Pipe Tongs
a tool to turn hex-nuts; plumbers work with it
time: 60 mins should be fairly enough.

19-08-2008, 05:06 PM
Sorry to say, but these challenges suck if they dont get rated....! It cant be that it takes more or less 3months to rate one challenge...! I know they have loads to do, but come on.....
And I know we all do the challenges to practice our modeling skills but of course I wont to know how well i´m doing..

If you dont have enough time to catch up, then skip one week challenge, and in that time try to rate the challenges from number 020 up till now...

i´m a bit disappointed, cheers.:grr:

Hey, come on, It's summer, there will be enough time to judge(they are doing it but it takes time). Its true that sometimes you want to know the results to know how well are you doing it but, mods are have not a salary, and have a personal life too, they can't be all day judging smcs.

24-09-2008, 08:48 AM
I like one of the other guys ideas (pebbles is it) about "what about a TOY"

Crime Scenes --- pool of blood.. chalk lines.. murder weapons laying about.. dank dark tunnels etc..

I have another suggestion. Forgive me if it was mentioned before.

Submarines. whether they're nuclear powered death machines, bathyspheres, something from Mr. Cousteau's personal collection, or even the sub of the future, the important thing would be to create a vehicle or device that allows for human travel and/or exploration under the water.

I remember cars and spaceships but never subs.

something you can model in 30 - 60 minutes.

i have a job now, and no time to participate anymore, because i cant get 120 mins of free time. the last challenges were cool, and i had liked to be in, but couldnīt. its no prob for me to spend my lunch break modelling, but that needs a topic you can do in less then an hour.

some ideas as i look ove rmy desk - shapreners, staplers, etc... or something funny like cartoon animals etc...

@ Psycho Mantis: Ya exactly i meant the one that Indiana Jones has. :) hehehehe!

27-08-2009, 12:56 PM
Teleporters would be a nice follow up to the time machine SMC.

31-08-2009, 08:29 PM
was thinking about faucets - from rags to riches - a blast from the past or a trend - it should be kinda hard to make a good looking complex model since most of the faucets are so damn simple, or?

31-08-2009, 09:14 PM
how about your system setup? you know, keyboard, mouse, tablet, monitor, desk...

so instead of 1 thing, you need to make multiple things in a hurry.

or maybe "tools of the trade". the stuff you use to create art with. so that could be pencils, a tablet/mouse, brushes...

Psycho Mantis
01-09-2009, 10:34 AM
no idea for a special topic, but i īd like to take part in some more smcs - but therefore i need it quick and dirty ;) 60 minutes maximum time every now and then would be nice - i simply dont have the 120 minutes of spare time - and getting back to a model to a later point is not exactly speedmodelling as its meant to be. so i would appreciate some challenges with tasks that can be completed in less then 60 minutes.

01-09-2009, 10:44 AM
if you remember a while back someone did a really nice picture of things that you find on your desk.. it had like pens, ipod, paper clips etc...

what i thought would be nice is if you did a "things on your desk" speed modelling..

i mean it leaves it really open for interpretation.. as everybody has those little kookie items on there desk.. whether its toys, junk, computer bits, smoking utinsils.. wwho knows..

Psycho Mantis
01-09-2009, 10:53 AM
yeah - we had that in the knick knackīs comp, but why not limit the items to a given topic. eg - office tools like pens, cutters, erasers, sharpeners... or stuff you have behind your bathroom mirror..tootbrush, comb, prozium...

01-09-2009, 10:58 AM

ah right.. but it is a nice idea.. it is something that everyone can do.. and the choices of what you make are sorta limit less..

01-09-2009, 05:02 PM
if you implement that SMC can we do it in at least 2 weeks time, since my desk is at it's worst appearance, things are just stacked, falling of one another etc, so to be true to the cause i wouldn't do my table any justice with 60 min on it :P
