This was again a great challenge full of many good entries....I'm really glad to see so many people participating Congrats to everyone!

Important (I felt the need to edit and say this from the begining because a lot of people said they didn't know there are prizes....)

FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT KNOW WHAT ARE THE PRIZES, HERE IS A THREAD EXPLAINING THEM: http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread.php?t=53531
Winners please contact Chris chrisp@3dtotal.com to claim your prizes.

Here are the results:

#1, winner of Challenge #4 is samsonreaper, congratulations!

#2 second place goes to : RQuack

#3 third place goes to nesanime

Here is a comment from our guest judge, Alex Popescu:

Quote:
Levente's matte was clearly the winner. The best thing about the matte is
the complete photorealism. It is so believable , that no one would ever
question this being real. I love the moody and heavy atmosphere that makes you think about a cold winter day.

One of the other great additions are the lovely foreground and the city/village
that the main building was integrated in. Again Levy did everything
to make this place a believable one, as close as possible to reality.

My only criticism would be that the building that almost filled the original
plate is now very small. We wold have loved to see all the details of the
main building interact with the winter elements.

Great job Levy , i love the matte.

Ryan's matte impresses on creating a very mysterious setting for the building. Again we have a blueish desaturated look, depicting a gloomy winter day. Although
there are some scale issues, I like the fact the trees and the mountains are a little overwhelming , creating this closed, dark place with a lot of personality.
I like the foreground elements, that help the matte by giving it dept, but the middle ground is bit flat.
Another thing thats pops out , being a little out of place is the tree on the right, that should be replaced or taken out.

Overall a nice matte with a very good mood that would be great with a little more work.

Nesanime did a great job on choosing an interesting
color palette. That is the main thing that made it stand out.You did
a good job on creating the winter scene . The snow on the roof looks a
bit too painterly, but the overall feel is ok.

The few things that should be mentioned are the trees, the lack
of dept and the clear separation between the foreground and the middle ground.

The look of the groups of trees is not that great, and it could have been improved by giving it a little more uniformity.
In terms of dept , the first thing to notice is the lack of another layer in the background, with trees distant buildings or maybe even far mountains.
In a winter scene , the background layers are very important for creating the
atmosphere. I would have also loved a bigger variation between the black levels from the foreground and the background layers, also very important on creating the impression of dept.
The last thing I want to mention is that it would have been great to see a place where you can cross from the foreground "hill" on the frozen river.
There is a certain visual path starting on the bottom center of the image but it stops when reaching the river. You could have given it a little more continuity.

Congrats on a job well done.
