Yeah, I agree, more loose skin and folds to add to the believeability of the weight and all. More details. I must say its very tough doing 2 characters as well. Over all though you are doing a good job. Keep going.

It can be from a vertex not merged. You might have a whole in the mesh. If you try displaying 2 sided is it still like that?

dude, I tried everything. I merged the vertices, I checked the normal directions, I checked the uvs, hell, I almost re-built the back of the head!
You know what? I'll cover it with hair The poly isn't missing, maybe the normal map will (only on that spot...)

testing...I should start to make the colour maps.
The hardware render viewport kinda look ok, but in any other renders it looks like a scuba gear full of crap... (I lowered the "bump" value too...)

For your render issues, in maya, the software render won't render normal maps, you need to use Mental Ray.
