Thanks for the intro to Sillage Vaisseau. Have been finding it very entertaining.

So, I was trying to make an awesome futuristic troop carrier, however when I was finished I ended up with something that looks like a steam punk Monopoly piece. :P I really have to stop playing Fall Out Las Vegas. I name this the Apocalyptic Shagin Train. I'll have another try again tomorrow. Best out of three . Finger's crossed.

Smile Doraemon 2nd Entry

OOps, a nice train. Nice

Here is my 2nd entry, found good time this week so I decide to run for 2nd entry. Still stuck with some model skill, have to practice more.

This time is the Takeopter which used in Doreamon japan comic series.

I will try to take another entry this week. Hope so.

Awesome work dude. I'm only new too. It's an amazing community here.

So this will probably be my final entry for this round. Put allot of energy into this one. Probably my first successful UV unwrap and texture creation. A futuristic mutli terrain Land Rover. Wanted wheels that would rotate down, but ran out of time.

Hupie - A warm welcome to the forums, excellent entry kinda reminds me of a Star Wars Pod Racer! i'm looking forward to seeing more from you in either this of indeed future SMC's, welcome aboard!

filbones - Nice style to the Land Rover, good clean modelling too, my only crit would be to put a few knife cuts in somewhere to harden the edges up a touch, the front hood for instance could be sharpened at the sides a little & the bump maps for the front & rear logo's are a little bit too much, dial that down a little bit more.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Here's my second entry. Although i like the design of my first entry better, i think this one turned out better because it was easier to make.

Cheers, played with some edge cutting and defining now that I have more time. Looks so much more defined. Wish my computer was better at rendering and reading bump maps while in Maya, but for now will just have to make do and maybe plan bump maps within concepts.

I haven't really delved into shading, rigging/parenting, or animation yet. At what stage would it be wise to play with 3ds or Zbrush when trying to add definition to models?

I'd say just continue with modelling right now, it is good to have a nice basis in modelling skills. You don't need to play with 3ds to add definition, it's a comparable package to maya only the button layout and workflows are sometimes different. I'd also wait with zbrush, just continue to learn creating clean meshes. All of this also depends of course on what you ultimately want to do in 3d.

Do you also use the edge loop tools in maya? They are very handy tools to add edge definition. If you don't know these, I'd search some maya modelling video tutorials on youtube.

Hupie, or anyone for that matter, how might you go about modeling a spaceship...
Would you model it in seperate parts? - Or would you model off it as one whole object?
When you model in high poly should you first make the basic model in low poly then convert?
Also on a side note I've been having A LOT of trouble making indents in high poly (for example Hupie's top fin on his ship) if I do manage to get it the way I want I usually am compensating for pinching and if everything goes well the rest of my model ends up taking a bunch of edge loops I don't necessarily want complicating me

Sorry for the questions but this type of modeling has always interested me but I can never seem to control everything as much as I would like lol
