Thanks for the feedback guys, I hope youre enjoying the ride while I am still figuring stuff out. Its still super early in the project so my posts are still swinging wildly around. The pendulum swing will slow down in time

I'm still trying out different lighting, I decided I don't want a high noon day scene because, well, thats kind of boring! I also added some trees to the scene for some color interest which may have cost the 'unearthly' feel of the scene, but Ill let you guys judge that.

Also got some more block in stuff. I'm still deciding on the building style, that's been holding me up for a while. I'm leaning pretty heavily towards Diablo3 Act 2 but with more color and deco like in God of War Ascension. We'll see how that goes...

Anyway, heres the next update!

Looks very nice. I'm liking the colours and the change of lighting however I'd say it needs some other light sources to add more contrast (fire pits, glowing energy thing etc?).

I like where your heads at Gordon, I agree 100%

When I get the buildings built, Ill be adding torches to give some hot spots and nice dark shadows.

I was also thinking about making the monolith and the town center having bright blue/bright green lights with a cool smokey effect to add some motion and signify that theyre some sort of magical power source or something. I haven't made effects since college though, so that will be interesting, lol.

this is progressing very nicely. I also like the colors and lighting and agree with Gordon about the light sources.

I like color tone and mood of the scene, and stable composition leads the eyes to the focal point. great job, love this!

3 weeks left! Time to start pushing out of the 'playground' phase!

I kicked off with replacing the old palm tree, updating lights (again, lol), a lot of scaling changes, updated cloud/fogs and got lights bouncing off the fog/cloud alphas and started blocking in some stuff for the foreground. Im gonna be doing market-like assets that are tattered and beat up due to a sandstorm

had a productive night and got more refinement done. this lighting is probably a lot closer to final result. color may change slightly in post, but this is probably final, im feeling pretty good about it.

fixed the tree shader so they actually show up, and build more stuff on that large center rock there...balconies, railings and gave the buildings support to sit on. now I have to make some more props. Gonna be making stuff to help with scaled in the foreground, like barrels, crates, sacks...merchant stuffs...then get some tents and banners to get some more color interest with the buildings.

This last post its an improvement. Its good that you can now make out what the shapes on the left side are with those touches of reflected light. It has gain on depth.

Thanks for all the feedback!

Here's another update! It's a lower quality render this time though, I didn't feel like waiting for the render, ;p

I love it, all those buildings with those small windows, the sky color and the contrast with the yellow/orange in the middle.

just what happened to that deep blue light on top of the monolith and the lights on the floating stone in front?!
