Doing some experimenting with extra tidbits. Trying to break him up some. The shoulder pad is temporary right now. I haven't decided on the design yet, I just wanted something as a stand-in.

The holes in his body afforded me some interesting options with the various straps. I was also able to break him up into several submeshes (by hiding the seams under the straps) to make sculpting alot easier.

Oh, and ignore the big hole in his back. I was experimenting with edgeflow and never filled it back in.

Just gave me an idea to suggest that builds on yours. Why not make the shoulder pad a large piece of bark from a log. Just picture a hollow log that is cut in half horizontally then placed as a piece of armor.

Another update. I skewed him alot to get a more interesting shape and more asymmetry. Added some test thorns to see how they look.

Now he just needs something on his right side to balance out all that weight on the left. Like the others were saying, maybe a large shoulder pad made out of a tree trunk. Coming along nicely.

Been a while. I've been busy moving to a new apartment for the last 2 weeks. But I'm still fighting for the glory of Threedy! A month or more left, so still plenty of time.

I got everything unwrapped this past weekend and started sculpting today. (I believe this is one of Sathe's bitching matcaps, so kudos to him!)

Good direction.

To me the surface details are too smooth and long. Try putting some more jagged insets into the barks surface, maybe try using a square alpha. (try the layer brush or clay brush at a low zintensity with alpha 28.) It looks a bit like wrinkled skin as opposed to bark right now. Make sure to cross some of them over in shorter intervals as well. (x not X) Hope that makes sense.

Kinda dig the forhead for some reason.
