Nothing exciting but for progress sake, here is the low topology version, uved as well.

Cleaning up the normal and occlusion map bakes at the moment. Hope to be texturing by this evening.

Thanks for the kind comments.

When you first started I wasn't 100% about your model but it is looking great now. The high poly version is nice clean and elegant. I look forward to seeing the textured version and wish you luck.

Nice work so far! I really like the shapes that you are getting. This makes a sweet silhouette!

Here is an early pic with occ map and some slight texturing.

I took this shot because the shader I'm working with gave my an cool iridescent paint look.. looks like a crazy fish.

And finally, this is closer to the direction I'm going. A bit different from my color concept but I like the red look.

Going to be toning done some of the large gouges/damage to the plating. Need to finish the texture for the weapon still.
Posing right now, and base is done. Almost done!

Darchand: Thanks
Lsouthard3D: Thanks

Ah, dude, it's looking really awesome, this came out of no where.

To be perfectly honest though, I LOVE your occ rendered model and think it's a lot more compelling than the textured red version. The white just seems to fit with the design of the model better, and it shows off all the good linework in there. The red is a little too dominating I find.

Personally, I'd stick with that and maybe add some flashes of colour in there. Keep your glowing blue sections, and then just put a few orange/blue stripes along the model. Maybe even keep some of the damage.

Just my personal opinion though, seriously cool work regardless.

I have to agree with Puckducker, I think the top one is more visually striking. I like the damage from the red one, but that red is just washing everything out.

It looks great though, keep it up.

Yeah, as far as showing off the model, the white looks better. But i think part of that may be because of the darkness of the red, right now the creases in the red are lighter than the red panels, and that just looks weird. If you really want to go with red I think you need to go "black" in the black areas and not the carbon gray you have now. Don't wash out the detail you have in the dark areas, just darken the darkest parts and sharpen the highlights of the ribbing.

I totally agree. The white one looks better. Perhaps if you change the red into something more shiny-metallic-look and the grey into black, it might work as well... but I'm not really sure of that.

This is pretty darn cool, I really like the shape/style of it.

I'm with those above me, the white shows the model off better, but I think its a bit too plain. The red could work if you worked the spec map, and used that to highlight things. Conversely, if you get that iridescent paint shader sorted, that should make the shape more readable solving any problems as well.

Looking forward to seeing more.

Busy as a bee! Dominance war and work, OI!
Anyhow I just got all my sheets posted and made final, a relief that it's finished.

I took you guy's advice and went with the lighter tones and I thank you all for the suggestions.

Here is the outcome...

Pole Vault Action

Hope ya like her, learned a ton making this character. Next year I'll definitely be rendering my next character out of mental ray or v-ray no more of this view port only business.

Came out looking beautiful. I'm glad you went with the lighter tones instead of the red. Grats on finishing.

Lovely stuff, nice one and well done getting to the finishing (or should that be throwing ?) line.

Nice to see someone with such similar aesthetic tastes to my own, all the best.
