It's too front heavy. His center of gravity would have him fall over....especially with a giant cannon on his back. I personally liked concept 1 the most. Interesting shape and it was what immediately drew my attention when I looked at the sheet. Just my two cents. The other designs look a little formuliac to me.

yeah i have to agree with that.. the design has that huge flaw if it is massive. the movement would be a bit clumsy and probably super slow. it needs to crouch into some kind of 'canon mode' to shoot and being massive thats just gonna take some time. probably good for really long range + defensive units around it.

i think im gonna go with the scout idea. smaller.. sleeker.. cannon doesnt recoil as much.. able to move a lot quicker.

thanks damageINC for the input

Scout
Scouts are advanced intelligence gatherers for Machine kind. They are small and are either fully mechanical, or animal hybrids comprised of animal and machine. Scouts are extremely mobile, fast, and possess light weaponry and armor.
i just realized that scouts can only have light weapon and armor. i dont think that cannon mounted on his back qualifies as light weapon right?

i guess i'll make the war machine after all

I like 3 for the leg design. Looks overall very stable, but still light weight and fast.

I think #3 works better for a war machine. #4 is good as well, however seems a bit vulnerable with the cables and wires exposed ( I like the extra joint there )

They're all awesome. I think #2 looks the best but they all rock.

SR_6274, Ichiban, DJdude - thanks for the comments. im gonna go with no.3 and definately add more armor to cover those exposed wires. wires look cool but i think it kinda makes it look unfinished.

UPDATE:

side view of the war machine. those spikes on his butt is for counter balance and to make it look good. not liking the idea of adding for the sake of design instead of function.

do u guys reckon i should give him a tail instead?

I think I have to agree that its still a little front heavy. Maybe enlarge the feet some, push the main body back a bit and make the thigh limbs more diagonal and less 'up'?

OR

Add a long tail, make him more like a dinosaur. That way you can basically keep the current design and add another cool element

I really like the concept, that gun looks like it could do some serious damage.

he looks very hunched over, it seems like it would be very awkward in battle, does he only hunch over when hes firing that cannon? if so he might need a really powerful hydrolic or something to push him back up I can't see that little hip joint pulling him back up with the weight of that cannon. Let me know if I'm just reading the concept wrong and I'll throw some more crits your way.

nope.. its gonna always be like that. it is a ranged artillary type thing. but if some little soldier managed to come close it is able to flick that poor soldier away or stomp on em or pick em up and throw it at some other poor soul.

here's a WIP paintover of the current war machine design + where the tail will roughly be

going from post #24, you could extend the torso abit, lengthen the forearms, and make a long, curved neck to balance it out - more of a cat-like silhoutte. Big change but might be worth goofing around with.

You can use some kind of perf plate to cover the wires, that way you can see through the wires inside ( and they are protected at the same time )

Joseph & Ichiban - thanks guys for the suggestions.

i'll try to do a quick sketch of that catlike form and so how that turn out. it could probably spark new ideas. and lengthening the arm sounds cool. he could use his hands to support himself if needed.

war machine sketch + tail. did this couple of hours ago but photobucket was down.. i'll just post it anyway
