Speed Animation Challenge discussion

I have created this thread so that members of the Threedy forum who are interested about doing these Speed Animation Challenges can come up the members they would like to run these challenges as well as some guidelines and also come up with the challenges themselves.

A few things that I would like is that with ever new challenge, threads should be named and set out like the Speed Modelling Challege section and named in weeks or months depending on what time scale you will be setting yourselves. Also I would like you all to have have fun and be sensible.
Though there will not be a moderator in charge I will be checking on these forums weekly to make sure things are running smoothly.

Thanks

Chrisp-3dt

Hello Chrisp. I would like to express my absolute joy for giving us this great opportunity to host such an event. As long as there are people participating in it, I'm sure everything will be excelent!
We've got a lot of work on our hands and I've got to try to come up with some guidelines, as you've said.
Best of wishes, Freespace
Edit: ... umm, can't make new thread...

The basic idee I had , was that people could learn and make animation for a futur portefolio. (and have fun to )

I am an animator for 2 years now in the game industry. I did cycle and acting(scripted event), so I know what compagny like to see and what is important to do. Its really important that speed animation session focus on quality over quantity.

So will should not focus to much on the length and not to mush on the modeling - lighting-texture.

so basically we could just make an exercise, like, climbing in a rope, expressing love, doing a dioalogue, or even a run cycle and do that in the given amount of time? Sound good to me I've got a whole list of exercises for ya ! It's quite huge, but there's AMAZING stuff there, very fun and cool exercises

http://animationgroup.proboards30.co...4082933&page=2

also check KavehMicheals document

A lot of it is taking from tons of recources and put together or made up by ourselfs

Man, I like this, This will definitally get me animating again K, what will we do first, something simple like a cycle? Just for the sake of experience, to see how everything goes and people respond etc? I'm in for somthing fun like a weird kinda skip cycle or some sort of jogging action, maybe a weird little walk! hmm? hmm?

Well this is a great event which should be celebrated! So I've got a great ideea for a first speed animation, if you agree! ( heads up Shiroii )
The Victory WALK. Imagine you've just acomplished something extraordianry ( like making a new section for threedy ) and that you're walking home thinking about your victory and what a great person you are. Now there's a cheeky walk... Let's go for that, eh?

My ideea regarding basic rules would be that on monday, the organisers select a theme/ideea, and by friday all the entries have to be listed. On saturday the winner/winners are selected and we all wish them Hooray on a job well done. Sunday it's rest&relaxation.

This is a great idea, and a real chance to learn to animate. Hard to find places to get animation crits, so this will be a huge help.

Some ideas for animations - a strong facial expression (joy, surprise, etc.), climbing, tug-o-war, falling onto ground, getting shot, getting out of pool/bath. Hope they help.

Pikmin what would a real company want someone to animate as a test of skill?

sounds good to me I like the victory walk thing. Will give a lot of fun entries and it will be nice for your portfolio So do we start this monday?

One thing I'm not sure of:
Shall we post wip's aswell? Like blocking, linear, refined etc? Or only the finals like in the speed modeling section?

We should make a list of rules and thign to remember, like the time schedual, 320x240 resolution, the maximum amount of time (which should depend on the subject) how many entries ou can give, the big ass prize Maybe we could sticky them or just post them in the first thread every new week.

Waddya think?

Well, we can do this:
Chrisp said we need to sort the thread to weeks, like Speed Animation Week #1 and so on. So we can have two threads, Speed Animation Week #1 and Speed Animation Week #1 W.I.P.

- OR -
In the thread, people specify it's a W.I.P. and they want crits, and when they post the final entry, they clearly say so.

We can't post W.I.P. in speed modelling because, honestly, in an hour's time you don't have the time to post a W.I.P., wait for crits, and then refine. But we can't start monday, cause people already know what we want them to do! Let's make an exception and start NOW until this monday, when either me or U post a new theme. Howzat?? There's 4 days left people! Come on, let's start this contest!

--- I can't make a new thread, weird huh? We need to make "Speed Animation Challenge Week #1 - The Victory Walk"

Andosier : Walk cycle that fit with the character personnality (or any looping animation), some acting, principle of animation like the feel of weight, mass transition... Not all your work, but the best work you have and nothing more then a 3 minute demo reel.

You dont need to have a story, just pure animation is ok.

I think we'll need some priviliges before we can make them? At least that's what the error says :-/

I think we could keep 1 thread and just let everyone post a link to their final entry on the last day.
