I just like to point out that one weeks is a alot more time than u think. For example, I created a 2 minute final fininshed animimation in just 2 weeks for my BA course. I was creating and rendering a scene each day, rendering took 3-4 hour in the evening whilst I had a social life, and compositing it in the morining and then on with the next....this is one person working on one workstation. So if i can pull that off , we should be able to do some great stuff!!!

This is a production piece...so its certainly possible to produce just a rig animation. Were not bothered about models or textures so much, its the quality of the animation. Youd be surprised just how much personlaity u can inject into a bear rig with out a model skinned on to it.

If you dont believe me...go look at the gallery pages on http://www.catoolkit.com/gallery/default_2.asp especially the one by Jim Conran called Loosen.

tomorrow is only one sleep away...BRING IT ON!

Good point, LostBear. Also, I finished my short sci-fi Nemesis ( about 4 minutes ) in 6 weeks, so for maximum 30 seconds of animation ( where modelling and texturing and illumination are not mandatory, though it wouldn't upset me to see some of those too ) the allocated 5 days ( monday to friday ) is just right. If ever there is something bigger we will have in store for you, we'll naturally extend the time to do it. But that's for later. Now we wait for tomorrow to arrive.

Sweet, lots of good stuff being said here.

The time limit is quite good I think. 5 days is MORE than enough for 30 seconds. As said, this IS speed animation. You'll benefit ENORMOUS because you just GOT TO HAVE those 30 seconds in 5 days, so you'll find a way. The more expertised people just work faster becuase they know the tools and they've got a workflow that works for them. By doing these kinda things you can really work on your workflow and just speed up. If you fail and don't make the time limit, no worries, you've probably learned a lot and you'll be one of the better people.

example: I started with animation about a year ago. Quite quickly I wanted to do a walk cycle. I took me about a week and it looks like crap. Now I can make the set-up in like 1 hour 30 minutes, tweak on it for 2/3 hours and it will look quite good. Not perfect, but good enough. Than some more hours of tweaking and it will look good! That's from 7 days, or maybe even 1(don't remember really, but it was long) to 1 day

By doing these exercises you'll just train yourself and have fun

CAT is amazing, becuase you can really just modify everything about your rigg and give him character, just by very simple forms. To bad it doesn't come for maya But I'd love to see all your CAT riggs, I might try it some time myself

I guess that was it, cya

Hey, thanks for the patience

We've made an exercise, but it still needs to be posted. We don't have the priviliges to make a new thread; so we have to send the title to Chrisp-3DT and he'll make the new thread.

We had a veeeery cool exercise for this week, but you definitally need all 5 days for that one, so we're going to do that one next week, because now we know how it all works it should be posted on time

This week we're going to do something with a swing :
The basic exercise is that you guys think about EVERYTHING that can go wrong with sitting on a swing. Just choose to most funny thing you can come up with and animate it

The official thread will be made pretty soon righ now. I've just send Chrisp-3DT a PM, so I hope the thread will be here by evening. In the official one we'll also post all the rules, guides etc. For know remember this:

-recomended resolution 320x240- 480x640 is ok, but only if the file doesn't get to big.
-You can use ANY rigg or software you like, as long as the animation is hand made
-the maximum time for this one is 30 SECONDS.
-use Quicktime if possible

For now you know the exercise and you can get rolling. Please post your things in the swing thread and not this one

Looking forward to see what you've come up with.
