Project Q - JinX-310

Hey Guys, we're doing a quadroped project at the Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark. We have to design, model/sculpt, rig, texture and comp a four legged creature during a 3 month time stretch.

This is my creature. A scout robot, called JinX-310. It is a runner but has the ability to throw smoke grenades if it is cought by tougher oponnents. It seeks out its target and reports back to the base.

I've been modeling for two weeks now (maya) and I'm almost finished, but I still need small details around the neck and head.

Feedback is welcome.

Now time for rigging :-/

I will be looking forward to when you get to pose it.
I think that the challenge will actually be the task of making it look alive.

I love your concept btw.

Overall it looks pretty nice as it is right now, but I like the way to front legs looks on your concept more than in your model.
It doesn't look as interesting on the model as on the concept. Shape wise.

Regards

Nice, can't wait to see it in a pose similar to the concept one.

a quick test render og the textures and shaders I have created thus far. I still need to bring out the scratches more and shade the entire backparty of the beast. But let me know if you have any advice.

ps. And I decided to go for a black coat after having seen V-rays RAW reflection pass, which looked way cooler than what I was doing with my puny white textures.

Hey guys, thanks for your nice words. Mcfly> Yeah the tail could have been more flexible, I'll see if I can improve the rig when I have the time.

But right now! I have an update for you! You can view it at youtube;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZL0uE1XohsI

This is the culmination of 3 months of designing, rigging, modeling, texturing, lighting and compositing.

Modeling, texturing and lighting was done in Maya with Vray and compositing was done in nuke.

Animation and sound is done by Roland Seer

Next project is to create a bad ass picture with this robot Any suggestions to what this image could be? Setting? Action? Feedback is alway welcome.

I think it would look a whole lot better if the setting/effects were a lot less stylised. I think it would suit a more realistic type of rendering, i.e as in the turntable above. A lot is left unwarranted by the latest animation, though I do like the subtle markings left by the feet etc on the sand.
I'm just not a fan of the art direction.

Looks real cool. I think it need some dust and collision with the sand because it doesn't quite feel as though its interacting with the environment?
