DWIV - 3D - VersionThirst - Infernonaut

Infernonaut - Abomination Demon

Infernonaut worked as a weapon smith deep underground around the lava flows in the fiery caverns of Hell. Near the edge of a hot river of melted rock, he forged massive weapons from red hot iron slabs, smashing them on his anvil with his giant hammer.

A dimensional rift suddenly exploded open near him, causing him to be thrown over, landing feet-first into the middle of the river of lava. Letting out loud howls of agony, he was able claw his way to the edge of the fire flow. Infernonaut dragged himself out of the lava with his melted clumps of flesh that used to be his hands. His entire lower torso had become a melted mass of flesh and bone; unsalvageable.

With the arrival of the dimensional rifts, demon surgeons wanted to put this weapon maker to battle. They surgically attached his upper torso to a saddle, which was securely strapped to a strong demonic creature. They also inserted and secured large metal scimitars into to his mutilated forearms.

Always looking to destroy, his demonic creature mount speeds toward anything it might be able to tear apart or make a meal of. Infernonaut uses his large powerful arms to hack at anything he gets near. A ferocious combination of speed and power.

I did a few sketches of some ideas, then made the color sketch, then the backstory.

Using the backstory more, I'm probably going to add more charred flesh and take off the exposed skull on top, which serves no purpose but to look painful.

I also want to add more straps to the saddle to make it look more secured.

Demonic abominations are right up my ally, this is going to be really fun in Zbrush.

Pencil sketches and quick coloring concept.

Plan to do another, more refined sketch.

Ah, another demon appreciator - nice job so far on the concept!

I'm a sucker for twisted limbs and deformity, and that sketch looks right up my alley. Looking forward to your progress here so keep up the good work

Thanks for the comments.

Here's the latest sketch. I think it's pretty much where I want it to be. I'd like to get some feedback before moving on to modeling. Any suggestions?

wow that thing is so freaky and demonic haha I love the clamps on his fleshy stumps, is that to hold his blades? Is his body just screwed into that metal plate on the beasts back? There isn't anything to crit really its a great starting point

the only thing is that the tentacle/claws don't look as menacing as they should for something as nasty as the rest. Great concept/drawing.

Thanks for the comments

drGrim - I decided to make the beastly mount more animal. I thought the 'gorilla' type arms game him too much humanistic personality, which took away from the real character, the rider.

Joseph Pomeisl
- I agree. I'm starting to reconsider the 'bone' claw weapons. I tried just using two metal weapons. Still seems a little blah. If you were a demon surgeon, and you could attach any weapon to some beast's arms before sending him into battle, what would you attach?

I wanted to try chainsaws, which would be so awesome, but I don't think they had gasoline powered chainsaws laying around Hell. I also thought about a weapon in one arm, and a shield in the other, but I want him to be mostly all offense. He doesn't have much to lose.

Any thoughts on weapons?

Wow! Your early concepts were good, and I was like "Okay, a good start" and then you made the blade version and the flamethrower version and it suddenly...you're cooking with fire!

Great, great start! To me, the blades imply a more active attacking role, while the flamethrowers suggest that he can get away with moving slower. IMHO the blades are more interesting because you're forced to reconsider how this fat man can quickly chop you to bits.

Thanks for the feedback. Decided to go with the blades. Worked on a profile image. Next step is front view.
