Congrats to all the winners! Great work...
This competition really did sort the men out from the boys, eh?...
Thanks to all at 3dTotal for their manners, and in dealing with the situation appropriately. Well done as usual.
And thanks to Sathe for being a champion for the masses...You got pretty hot there didn't you? Seems it was justified, though.
Let's go!! #6 should be a good one.....

Holly cow. What the crap is going on here? Who are all these no names with sub 100 posts coming in and trying to talk about being fair?
Hope you're not referring to me here, Inveni0!

We've just about wrapped this up now, so can you please not start reverberations? The votes that were counted were fairly made and we have checked this over and over. Any votes that were unfairly made (such as by voters with less than 50 posts who hadn't submitted to the challenge itself) were discounted. The point of these challenges is to build the community, and the voting process is part of that community spirit! We'll consider alternative voting methods for future challenges, but for the time being this is how it works, and it can work if we all play fair - and there's simply no reason not to!

If you've got a problem with me posting in this thread about "fairness" then PM me so that this can be kept off thread. Cheers.

I think Invenio here was refering to the sub100 posters such as alexsc and mshay, talking about being 'fare' in the competition, and having their friend win.

It certainly can work if we play fair, but as we've found out , some people are not willing to do that. Let's hope the next comp runs smoothly.

No prob. When I first read your response to me, I was like, "WTH?"

Maybe people without awards should not be allowed to vote? Or with join dates newer than 6 months?

Yeah sorry about that Invenio, I was wrong to get defensive! It was just that it was posted just after my "hey let's all be honest" thread, etc., so thought you were having a pop at me about the fairness thing - but understood now and apologising for that. Sorry again!

It could get quite complicated with more restrictions on who's allowed to post, but the minimum months thing sounds like it could be a better idea than minimum posts, as at least people won't be able to power-post to reach 50 posts to enable themselves eligible for voting. I'll mention it to the mods who handle the challenges - thanks for sharing this idea! I don't think the non-awards idea is quite as good... some people just forget to claim their awards, etc., so it would be better to have something such as minimum posts or a minimum time here to make them eligible for voting. I'll see what the mods say as prep has started for the 006 challenge. Cheers Inveni0!

You'll be right Lynette.

You just need a couple of beers, a steak and chips dinner, a lap dance or two and a couple more beers. Then you'll be set. Too easy.

In fact, that sounds like a great idea. Good thinking Honki. *high five*

I'm screwed then... I don't see how that would change anything! For one thing there was no voter's fault here and voting is not a confidential pole but an open affair... Why are you so determined to think badly of anyone who's just joined the forum? I have to say I find it rather offensive and discouraging from any participation if the thing is to become a part of some elitist club :/

I agree with Intervain. The rules were just fine untill this moment. We shouldn't go crazy becouse of one incident.
There whould apear a question why to register in the forum if you can't participate in it?

Intervain, you're not screwed ( 6 months is since January ).

bryzol, please carefully read what I have here, it will hopefully answer your dillema. And there was not just one incident, it was a repeat offense, because we were too lenient.

We have been having the boom of new artists coming with the Sculpt Challenge. That is wonderful news.

As you may have noticed, there were some bannings made, due to the fact that voting was heavily abused upon. When we approached the matter charismatically, we were only scorned and accused of such feats that it even caused some valuable long lasting members of the community to depart ( be it momentarily, I hope ). We shall be more cautios, and less tolerant of rule-breaking from now on.

New members can vote if they have a valid entry in the competition they are voting for. So if new artists want to join the competition, please do, and your vote will add to the whole. If you're not a sculpter, but you've got 6 months history here and 50 posts ( sorry to say the 20, then 50 posts rule, turned out for the worse, so this modification is deemed necessary ), which means you've been around the forum and are an active member, then you can vote too, and make your opinions clear to all.

I find this extremely fair. Having a select panel of judges would quickly be seen as subjective and corrupt. Having only the moderators do the voting is wrong even in my eyes. But we cannot let the system be made a mockery of by new comers that hope to achieve more than they can by normal ethic means and following the rules laid out. Such people are one in a million, but we've seen it only takes one to turn a lot of things sour.

End of story. I hope you all react to this maturely and after having taken into consideration our situation.
This does NOT affect participants of the competition.

I don't like to bring this up.... Well, there were two user accounts (that I know of) who did nothing but post comments without substance ("looking good.") into WiP and final artwork threads to reach the post limit, and vote on these challenges. According to Freespace-3DT, these two accounts were operating from the IP address - saying it raises strong suspicion of sockpuppetry (wikipedia) would be an understatement. These accounts were already active on challenge #004, and one of them was banned immediately (both their votes were deleted and not counted, by the way). The other one tried the same strategy on #005 but did not succeed, either (I think he is still waiting for a ban, by the way). You know the rest of the story if you've read this thread from the beginning. On a side note, no other (eligible) voters can be confirmed to be sockpuppets IMHO - in dubio pro reo.

Long story short, we don't think badly of the people who recently joined the forums, we would just like to prevent this sort of thing from happening again. Anyway, we are only talking about the voting. You are free to participate, and if you did, you are also allowed to vote.

-edit: ugh, Freespace beat me to it.
