Neil, I don't think Pablo was trying to insult or compliment. He was just offering advice to find your niche. Find your style and then get really good at it. I think that's excellent advice. Although maybe not a direct criticism of your image.

there's a point. If you're using particles and stuff to fill your scene or a portion of your scene, and this takes X minutes, does it count as part of your modelling time?

Whoa ! No insult at all!

I think we could all agree that compliments and insults are futile in these forums because the one reason we are all part of threedy is because we want to share and somehow absorb some of the knowledge that surges from the artwork we see.

What I was trying to say is that in some cases a different modelling approach for an already good idea (the fountain) might work better for a speed modelling contest.

Yes.Particle modelling is a well known method for liquid and might be the only alternative for high end animations and cg products.

But. Why not challenge ourselves and try to model flowing water? It will surely be fun and interesting to see! When I told you that it is great to find a modelling style it´s because for me 3d modelling is an art and a discipline just like canvas painting or wood carving and that I really care when I see that technical difficulties interfere with the eagerness for expressing our ideas.

I just wish that SMCs could become an interesting self improvement space where comments actually talk about the modellingand not just be witty phrases.

Anyways we all love the same stuff so love and peace!

I plan on entering more SMCs in the future, and I'm definitely doing it for the purpose of practice and experience. So keep the constructive criticism flowing!

Hey Pablo! Thanks for your comment. And your absolutely right! I always try to have a nice mesh but sometimes I should just leave it be and go on to the next object! will have that in mind on the next SMC.

Nice entries everyone!

So... maybe everyone else already knows this... but when do we find out the results? Is there a set date? Or is it just whenever? Just curious.
