Arm Rig

Hey Guys,

I'm doing a robotic arm rig for college at the moment and it feels like it should be straight forward but I keep running into problems with it.

I have the Bones and IK Solvers set up and it has to be able to rotate on the Z axis at the base which it does, but it also rotates on the x and y axis and I can't see anything wrong with the pivot points. If anyone could have a look at it or point me in the right direction, that would be awesome!

Cheers.

you have two options

1: use HD solvers and set up joint constraints

2: don't include the base in the IK chain and instead tell it to rotate towards the end effector in the Z axis only. you might be able to do that with a lookat constraint but personally I'd be inclined to write up a quick script controller for it

You should be able to constraint that bone to rotate only in Z by going to Hierarchy (panel) --> IK --> uncheck X and Y axes under rotational join. Works fine with both HI IK and IKLimb.
