How to get started
Hello there...
Ive been visiting forum for about 3 days now and finally registered. I must say that i am very pleased with all the great work from everyone here and i hope to do such things one day. I recently got a copy of 3ds max 7 and completed about the first 3 tuts on there. My question to anyone who can help is, where do i begin? Is there any advice you guys can give me to get me started , and if the program i have chosen is the right one. I also have some skills in photoshop if that matters (which i think it does) ... anyways im happy to be here, thank you for the great forum... |

hi ghostlink
![]() IMO the best way to start with Max is to do exactly what you've been doing - work thru as many of the tutorials that come with it as you can. Also check out the tutorials on 3DTotal and other places. Another good idea might be to make sure you learn all the hotkeys....get in the habit of stuff like that and it'll speed up your workflow. Basically just be as thorough as you can in learning what everything does, and in learning how to model, texture, light and render your scenes. Do as much research as you can. And then jump in and don't be afraid to experiment and make a mess - trial and error is great for learning what to do and what not to do. And having some photoshop skills will come in extremely handy....especially when it comes to textures. And if you're out and about take a camera with you and start taking photos of any cool textures you see, as well and anything that inspires you that you can use as reference (and reference is one of those things that can never be stressed enough....always get good reference!!!). Oh and Max is definately a great choice of 3D app.....very poweful and it's used by a helluva lot of companies for games, movies etc etc. Umm so just get stuck in and get your hands dirty ![]()

thank you very much for your reply. I think i know what has to be done now haha... hard work but i guess thats what its gona take. So far the work looks so deeply exauhsting especially when taking a peep in more advanced tuts, but i guess once u learn basics everything becomes repeat from there on....
anyways thank you again , and if u dont mind i added you on msn just incase i may need any help if u can offer... thank you ![]() |

Forum n00b here, long time 3d man.
Greetings, my name is Stefan Soc... I'm a 21 year old currently going into the last semester of a 3 year 2D/3D Animation program up here in Ontario, Canada. I'm most certainly very excited to get into the industry, really can't wait! Aside from that, I'll be plopin' up my portfolio site soon, so I'll post something about that eventually... aaaand that's it for now (: |

Oright!
Hey eveyone, I'm from the now sinking fast 3DCafe forum, Ive got a lot of respect for the qulaity of work here, and cant wait to get involved in this forum.
Im a Max user, poor student studying Multimedia, so if any of you guys have problems with software out side of 3D, ie Flash, Combustion, Cubase etc Im more than willing to help. Im not a 3D noob, but Im a good 2 years behind the quality of work in the gallery here! Thanks alot! |
