The Challenge Rules

1). Each challenge we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. Spend no longer than the allocated time then post a render of your model. No cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modeling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for. Any images of models that do not match the brief can be removed and the poster disqualified.

2). You may enter as many times as you like as long as each model is completely new and uses no components from other entries. Entries using models which are not original will be removed and the poster disqualified.

3). Your entry may contain as many views of your model as you like and must include a clear and easy to see wireframe of the mesh before any smoothing/subdivision has been applied. Wire renders/ Cell Shaded or Screengrab wireframes are acceptable. Any wireframes we cannot see correctly will be disqualified. The key is for us to be able to see the wireframes clearly to ascertain how you modelled the subject matter.

4). You MUST include the following details with each submission:

A). Software used
B). Time spent creating the model.
C). A Clay Render of your models.

Any further information is voluntary but posts not containing the required information can be removed and the poster disqualified.

5). Post THREE images per entry which must be no larger than 1280x1024 pixels in either landscape or portrait format with a file size of no more than 195k.
1 image for your wireframes and 1 for your clay combined with & 1x final optional composite for beauty renders.
These images must be uploaded to our servers using the "browse" button on the forum reply page.
Do not link to external images files. Images larger than the maximum size or posts containing links to external images (other than for reference materials)
will be removed and the poster disqualified.

6). The creation of displacement maps, normal maps and any splines drawn out in an external program other than your modeling software are to be included in your modeling time.

7). Time spent on rendering or texturing or building a scene in which to display your model is not included in the allocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure". If your model is not complete, you can still post it as long as it's recognizable.

8). Posting the same entry twice in a challenge is considered to be double posting and will result in a disqualification. When asked to fix a previous post due to DQ or any other reason, you must fix the first post, or delete it altogether and create a new one.

9). The Winner must email adam@3dtotal.com to claim their prize.

10). Only 1st place & 2nd place (i.e. the runner up) can claim a real world prize, however 1st, 2nd & Honourable mentions all get awards.

Here's my entry, i tought this would be a quick one to do, but it took some time to get everything right, and I "used" up all of my 90minutes for this one, around 40minutes for the modelling and the rest for materials, renders and some postprocess in PS.

The logo for my favorite sports team, The New York Football Giants

i have deleted this one as it was considered as sculpting and you're right, it was.

Unless your are using sculpting programs for displacement/normals I don't allow them, this is a Speed Modelling Challenge, with emphasis on modelling not sculpting.

Ok thank you for your answer. I didn't know if you were considering sculpting as a modelling.
You can delete this if you want. I will make it with only blender. Because you're right this is sculpting, the only thing i made was the base mesh on blender, and after i have sculpted with zbrush. It was a try, and i will do it with blender only...

Hi, So i made this one only with blender. I used photoshop but it was just to crop the render and i have done no compositing at all.

Clay is render without smooth poly, but with shadow, as it was not really visible without.

To be honest i have spent 83 mn sculpting this and smoothing it... I hope this will be good. I have learnt 3d by myself a long time ago with lightwave but now i use blender when i can't use zbrush (i love this one), and it is the first time i participate to a contest...

Any advices are welcome...I am here to learn and improve my skills. So thank you for reading this... I know that i still can make some improvement on the mesh, but it would take more than 90mn even there are few, but if i wanted to use it, honestly i would had some point in dog's head. But i have no time left....

Hi, great entries so far guys !

My contribution for this challenge. This one is based on the logo of a french football team from the city I'm living, Marseille (South-East). Team is named "Olympique de Marseille" and used to be a great a few years ago.

90mins were used for modeling (the OM piece was a mess...) - 3ds max & vray

Not a master piece indeed but already thinking for another one

Nice entries fellas.

ludovic > not bad but the lion and ornaments look very block, it needs a Subdiv modifier. I find it easier to model details on a separate mesh than the base.

And here's my entry, it had been a while since my last one.

ASM is a rugby team near my hometown.

After a long search on how i active my account i finally found it and now i ll post!

First of all great work from everyone!!Now to the point.. I am from Greece and my favorite team is Panathinaikos but also i m a fan of Tottenham

The software that i use was 3D Max and i render with Vray and a little bit CS Photoshop

I spend 86 mins:
Modelling 30mins, Render 30mins and Photoshop 26mins

So this is my logo for the contest:
