Introducing the Space Girl competition! Sponsored by Lagoa and Wacom

Win a Wacom Intuos. Plus! Free models & textures for all! To celebrate the success of the recent Lagoa webinar we're giving everyone free models & textures, plus the chance to win prizes!

Extension: new deadline = 29 July 2014!

If you think you've got the hang of character creation, 3dtotal, Wacom and Lagoa would love to see what you're made of! Create your very own 'space girl' and render it with the free web-based renderer, Lagoa, for your chance to win a Wacom Intuos Pro Small, an 11-inch male anatomical reference figure, plus Lagoa Professional licenses and 3dtotal magazines and books!

If you missed the Lagoa webinar in association with 3dtotal on 26 and 27 March, you can catch the free tutorials right here:

Lagoa and 3dTotal | Live Character Creation Tutorial (Part 1) from Lagoa on Vimeo.

Lagoa and 3dTotal | Live Character Creation Tutorial (Part 2) from Lagoa on Vimeo.

Prizes

First prize - worth over $1000 US!
Second prize - worth $700 US!
Third prize - worth $145 US!
How to enter:
We challenge you to create your very own Space Girl! Let your imagination be your guide - the only requirement for the contest is that the final model must be rendered in Lagoa, so showing your work in progress is essential. You can sign up to use Lagoa for free under the Community license, which includes 5GB cloud storage, 2 hours/month rendering time, 1 background render job, content embedding - and no credit card details will be taken.

The rules:
The final model must be rendered in Lagoa. Extra credit will be for awarded for using physically based materials, Lagoa camera settings, lighting and any other features.

To enter the contest, submit the following for your chance to win awesome prizes:
  • Your final render at screen resolution (72DPI)
  • List the features of Lagoa you used to produce your render
  • List the programs you used to create your Space Girl
  • List any supplemental information, such as a description of your final submission, the 3D content used (ie did you create it yourself or use stock models), and so on. More is better here as it will help the judges to pick the rightful winner!

Submission deadline:

Be sure to submit your work by 29 July 2014 to competitions@3dtotal.com with the subject line 'Lagoa Space Girl competition'. Winners will be announced on or before 5 August 2014. Be sure to include your full name and shipping information. You will only be contacted by postal mail if you are one of the lucky winners.

Free assets!
To help you out, Lagoa is offering the Space Girl model - as featured in the webinar - as a free asset for this competition. You can download the female model, hair model, spaceship model and textures by clicking the button below. Feel free to use these 3D models and textures in your new design - or if you're feeling brave, why not create your own Space Girl from scratch?

Download your free assets right here!

Judges!
All submissions will be judged by a panel of 3D modeling and rendering experts from Lagoa, plus judges from the 3dtotal team.

Terms and conditions: The competition deadline is 29 July 2014; entries received after this date will not be considered. Winners will be contacted via email after the closing date and prizes will be distributed accordingly. Employees of 3dtotal.com Ltd, Wacom and Lagoa (including freelancers), their relatives or any agents are not eligible to enter this competition. 3dtotal.com Ltd's decision is final and prizes will not be exchangeable for cash. By entering this competition you consent to 3dtotal.com Ltd sending you twice-monthly email newsletters and press releases. You also agree to for your email address and competition submission to be sent to Lagoa for marketing and prize-distribution purposes. You may unsubscribe from newsletters at any time.

Hi.

May I ask, is this challenge open to anyone or only to US residents?

Thanks.

A browser based renderer.. who would have thought?! I have had an idea for a "Space Girl" type project for a while now.. time to get modeling! Do we start a thread right in this sub-forum to show our progress?

Hey Lynette. I've never really modelled a character before but it would be nice to try. Let me think about it.

Hi there! To submit, we just need to see a screen resolution image - around 1000 pixels wide should suffice, at 72 dpi. However, we always recommend working larger (300dpi), and saving out a web resolution image for the purposes of submitting, as that way you always have a backup ready for print if it's ever needed!

Best of luck, we look forward to your entry!

Hi everyone, I'm new here, saw the competition in 3dTotal's facebook page and said why not! Problem is I never used Lagoa. Will the 3 hour free render be enough and how difficult it is to learn?
