Testing object lighting

I was playing around with brazil, and figured out how to emit light with and object as source. So, after some more playing around I made this non-extravagant scene, so that my computer would have something to think on while I took a brake.
It rendered from the top viewport. The black and white squares are tall boxes on a ground plane.

Modeler/Renderer: 3dsmax 6 w/brazil 1.2.21
Rendertime: 5h 26m 57s

Please share your thoughts with me.

nice... you could write the name '3D' with the white ones... it would be great...

Not hard at all... First of all, swich the renderer to Brazil, if you are using 3dsmax 6, then use mental ray as material-editor-renderer. If not, then no materials will show. I'll assume you know how to do this, if else, simply ask (also if I haven't been spesific enough).

1. Create a Brazil Utility material: The "color"-color is the color the objects gets, wich is not affected by shadows and such. I used the color white as you see in the picture.

2. Check that the Generate GI is turned on. (Recieve GI is not important, so turn it off.). The "filter" indicates the color that is emitted. In the case of my image, the color is whitish blue, red, and yellow. The "Level" indicates intensity.

3. In the render-dialoge for brazil, look for "Brazil: Luma server" dialoge-thingie . Enable Indirect illumination. In my scene, I disabled "Direct Illumination". If the illumintion becomes grainy, change the "shade-rate"-settings.

4. If you only want your object-lights to be lightsources, create a default-omny (NOT a Brazil-Light-Omny...), and simply turn it off.

5. Apply the material to an object and .... render I guess. .

Tell me if it worked!... .

Here is the same, in perspective. The word "3d", should be more etymologically correct now. .

El miserable, are you using a specific tutorial or just playing with it (brazil)?
