Hmm it says in the rules that all shaders are allowed but only that certain texture maps are... Does that mean that you could fine tune a sub-surface scattering shader without using textures for your render???

well, you have to use texture maps, but if you are able to render out a sss shader, then tell me how.

Well you can get a pretty decent sss render without any maps applied except normal and displacement and the rest you can use the specularity maps in combination with the diffuse to look ok... Will have to look into how far I can push it though... Crispy and I actually spoke of this subject in my sketchbox not so long ago...

what I meant was, if you are able to render out an sss shader on a texture map.

But other than that, you have to use texture maps, so if you can't get the sss shader to render to texture, then you can't use it.

I don't think that's right toe. If any shader is permitted, then as long as the effect is 'hard coded' by the shader itself and not controlled via maps then its ok to use.

You wouldn't have to bake a SSS map to use it you just couldn't use any maps to control it.

Well they have a "soft start" and that means that if you aim at top positions then you should hand it in before the actual voting starts to get those votes but otherwise it is still ok to hand in later, but then you have a lower chance of scoring as high...
