Ok, I use 5 also.
To export this, you press CTRL-M for Render Queue.

There, at Output To choose the filename, like "demoreel". Then under Output Module, choose TGA Sequence at Format; leave the rest alone (Millions of colors, RGB); Under Render Settings, have Best Settings;

It will export files like demoreel_0001.tga, demoreel_0002.tga, etc.
The good news is, if you find you're running out of RAM, simply set your work area between frames 1 and 300 (for example). Export that. Then set it between 301 and 600. Then make a new Render Output for that, but reuse the demoreel name. It will automatically continue with demoreel_0301.tga, etc.

Then, use something like the free Virtual Dub to load up your TGA sequence, specify a frame rate, a codec and an audio file, then convert it all into a video file of your desire.

im loading in renders from ma tga's with passes into AE. is it better to compress all passes then import them in to the demoreel AE comp ? does that save any computer power ?

Yes, prerendering your AE scenes will help a ton. Just remember to use lossless formats like TGA when exporting, in order to preserve all the quality.

If you plan to send it to Youtube/Vimeo, use H264. But, when dealing with HD video, there's no compromise in filesize if you want quality.

StarCraft Final Metamorphosis was around 2 GB for the version I sent to Youtube, and it was only 7m30s.

oh kool
coz ive saved out a test in xvid and its around 400meg sounds about right then

you would think there would just be a button to just do this in AE rather that using virtual dub

After Effects can export to video too, I just prefer having an image sequence if I want to change audio/codec without the need to re-export the whole thing again. Besides, with that trick to go around limited RAM, export to video wouldn't work.

yeah that was my problem RAM gonna upgrade this week

here's what i got so far lol still whacking it together so nothing in Stone more of a lesson in after effects
printers need rerendering out again plus a bible of other printers/fridges/robots to render and add in and ignor the dude at the end hes going

all advice and crits welcome

As the News Editor for 3DTotal, I look at a lot of demoreels.
Here are some crits:

First of all, the intro text takes too long. 10 seconds is too much. I've finished reading it in 2-3 seconds, the rest is just filler. Most people will stop watching your reel after 1-2 frustrations. Another point, make it easy to read. So the fancy blinding glow is best used elsewhere. Third point, make it clear what you do. So, for example: Scott Needs. Modeling Reel 2012; or: Scott Needs. Motion Graphics and Matte Painting Reel 2012;

The Chelsea Football Club logo appears twice. You shouldn't have something repeating itself in your reel. Also, I don't think it's worth having it in there anyway.

You could speed up the Stadium scene. It's a really cool thing, but takes up too much time and your point can be made much better if it went by faster.

The printer at 1m07s is not running at proper framerate.

A final note is that you should prioiritize the cool things toward the start of your reel. The first thing I see after your name should be your best thing. Also note, don't stuff the reel with mediocre work (this is not to criticize the quality of anything in your reel now; just pointing this out; you will be the judge of what you feel you're putting in). If you feel some of the things in your reel are of varied quality, trim them out.

Your reel will always be pretty much as good as your worst thing in it. I'd rather see a one minute demoreel featuring awesome work, than 2-3 minutes of mediocre work (even if the start of that reel has the aforementioned awesome work).

Would show some of the models u had done in ur old demo reel, some of them where really good.

Like Freespace said, get rid of the logo.
