here is a timelapse script, "ztimelapse", but it s not working on zb 3.1 or i couldn't install it properly,

http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/sho...8&page=1&pp=15

if it s only for zb2, (i m not sure) maybe some scripter who know this kind of thing do a little favour for us and adapt it for zb3.

edit; you can download it here,

http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/downloadcenter/

for zb 3.1, but i couldn't understand how it works.

yeah, i am with some of the other guys. As long as it stays simple and short time frames like 4 hours i am in. I think people really like the simplicity of it, and it pushes you. I work full time, so it is nice and refreshing to do these and helps push your design sense. Lets not over complicate it.

Definitely would be nice to have outside judges for this too.

I just couldn't get a big sculpt done in time for the other challenge, I'll still try but theres no way.. a big time frame is shorter in a way. I LOVE the little 4 hour ones, and they helped improve me a ton. Big ones.. . not so much improvement. Cool, and the results are great if you finish though.

I really wanted to see another 4 hour one now, somethign liek a topic 'aliens'.... short , sweet, magazine or print prizes.. it's the beauty that started this rollercoaster that is speed sculpting challenges at Threedy .....

Tom, I didnt see you mention sculpting anywhere, does that mean these IFC's , are going to be more free and open, with actualy modeling in max, and other programs included, to achieve the result of the brief?

A lot of us enter these challenges for fun, with the intention of doing well, and hopefully winning. Majorly increasing the timeframes cuts a lot of us full time workers out.

I'm up for doing this every 3rd or 4th challenge. The inter forum activity will be good for threedy, and the challenge will be tougher. It would be nice to have some judges too, preferebly those who aren't involved in the community at all. Guest judges from the special effects world, people who can look at the objects for what they are.. at the ideas and execution with a fresh mind.. perhaps a traditional sculptor, or one of the traditional concepters frmo weta.

Mudbox and zbrush are pretty much built around their ability to make organic work, designing a vehicle in it, would not be really possible from a base cube, but if we ar allowed to chuck a 100 subtools at it, it may be possible. Still, that's not where the softwares power lies, and if I want to make a vehicle or motorbike, i'll do it in max or maya or xsi, where it would be quicker, easier and more accurate.

People love characters, and lots of guys here want to be character artists or be good at organics, zbrush quickly gives them that feeling after a few weeks of training, another reason why the sculpting challneges were popular, and zbrush is, they make people feel good about their work. So if it's still a sculpting challenge the option to do something organic/hard surface mix would be most preferable to me. Like the machine flesh challenge that kicked of cgtalk's big competitions.

phew.
I could not agree more. You said it all.

The speed sculpts are awsome Im loving them. The 4 hour limits are great and I loved the cube sculpt challenge aswell sometimes a little extra time is a good thing too really think about your sculpt.Maybe every now and then chuck in a big challenge that was kinda wikked fun....With the speed sculpts Im not sure if its only bust sculpts...but head and full body sculpts these would be fun also.

I prefer sculpting with time limit. The less time the better. It is for me more atractive and easy to find time for it. It is the right challenge

yeah, I've got to agree with the 4 hour time limit too. It was nice to have unlimited time on this cemetery challenge but I like the ability to go from one challenge to the next more quickly so I can get more exercise and learn from my mistakes.

Ok, it's settled then. 4 hours it is.

Next. How do we go about policing it in an IFC?

One suggestion: At every beginning and end stage of a participant's modelling sessions, which may be multiple sittings to get a 4hour overall amount, the artist should save a file of their progress. That way, the beginning one of one session, will have a time stamp and will correlate with the end file of a previous session.
Of course, if they do it in one session, it will be simple: two files -- beginning and end.

So, artist's should have this data only in the event that their model is called into question. So it's not like they have to submit it. It just acts as proof.

Does any of this make sense?

I was hoping Kaz would have posted this up as he was the one who showed me yesterday but there is a script for zbrush that records a models time, If a couple could test it and out and make sure it works, ive had a couple of problems...
Point in case. It does have potential http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/sho...d.php?t=023618

It doesnt cover Mudbox, but there may be ways to sort it also

Then, I will change my system time to match you... Hmm. No... that won't work...
I know, I'll fly around the world backwards at faster than light speed. And then I'll set your computer to...

Oh. Nevermind.

Ok, looks like Kazamurat's and Sathe's suggestion is the best avenue to go down. I really can't think of a way of doing this that can't be rigged.

Even if there's a script that will count the time, there are probably ways to hack it (anyone ever hacked savegames or so using a hex editor?).... But I suppose 100% security isn't feasible, anyway, unless you send people out to check on the participants.
