Great ideas VersionThirst! I'm digging on the seven deadly sins idea for sure. Nursery Rhymes would be cool too - Rumplestiltskin would be a total blast!

Nice idea Version, I really like re-interpreting design idea's like that. It's in the same vain as the "real life cartoon" that was week4, which I thought worked really well.

Since there are so many ways to break a time rule, why don't we keep it theme and quality-based rather than speed-based? Say a week or two depending on the nature of the topic.........this would allow fulltimers to throw in some time daily too.

Another fun reinterpretation topic could be the 12 Signs of the Zodiac. That gives a lot of variation from human characters (Gemini and Virgo) to animals (Pisces, Capricorn) and even an object! (Libra)

Great one Kate!
I was also thinking of reinterpreting Chess - there's castles, bishops, kings and queens, knights - lots of stuff happening

Maybe it's just the fantasy/horror geek in me, but I think it would be cool to re-interpret characters from fables, fairy tales, or classic stories. Mcfarlane has done this a couple times already with his Twisted Land of Oz (Wizard of Oz horrified), McFarlane's Monsters (traditional movie monsters like Frankenstein and Dracula re-interpreted), or Twisted Fairy Tales (Deranged interpretations of Humpty Dumpty, Little Red Riding Hood, etc...) Even his new Warriors of the Zodiac is an awesome theme (zodiac sign animals as beastly warriors).

He's covered a lot of good ones, but there are tons of themes to be reinterpreted. They don't even have to be horror themed, anyone could remake a scary character with butterfly wings and a tu-tu. Some ideas to be re-interpreted in a cool new style might be:
  • A character to represent one of the Seven Deadly Sins
  • A Disney character
  • A Dr. Seuss character
  • A nursery rhyme character
  • a fruit or a vegetable turned into a character?
  • etc, etc, etc...

I just think re-interpretations are a lot of fun because you've already got a starting point, whereas "make anything you want" comps are a little harder to get going off the concept phase.

Just some ideas, thanks.
"grimm faerie tales" indeed! great Idea.

What about Historical Figures if they were from the Future? Like an alien version of Zeus, or Winston Churchill: Space Marine!

After being averse to the idea at first glance, the more I think about it the more it makes sense. People like me are still learning how to use our sculpting programs, and this gives us a good window to produce something of artistic quality and not a reflection of technical knowhow. I also like how it takes cheating out of the equation. But speed sculpting is still fun because it's exciting to see how much you can do in a limited span of time. Guh! So torn!

Regarding the Speed / Non-Speed Sculpting, you may have noticed we're still playing with the option. Challenge 005 had no time limit, and we may return to this feature in a future challenge, sooner or later.

Keep up the brainstorming. The staff are currently putting together an idea for the next challenge, it seems we're on our own for now ( no other forums involved just yet ). We always take a peek here to see what you're putting together as well.

ideas....hmm eureka!!

well all ideas are mind blowing ,but would like to bring forth these points :

1)we have been sculpting singular for a while now , it woul d real fun if the mesh given is a base slab and we have to pull out sculpt a whole scene on it(decided by mods ofcourse).

2)timing shouldnt be fixed ,though but according to what u are asking us to sculpt.like 4hrs for half body,5hrs for full body ,and for a scene maybe a couple of hours more.

3)so much for speed and non speed, it would be really great if a master sculpter round (similar to super stylized but bigger)event was held twice the year.in which the main aim would be to produce a master piece and if possible the top 5 sculpts will be sold for real money .but this sale thing would require legendary sculptors to come in and pay to the top 5.

any comments anyone?

Hey Freespace,
Was puzzled why other forums weren't gagging at the bit to join in? Maybe they've checked out your forum and think you'll steal their members if they see the Threedy Forums.
If you don't get any bites from them then I reckon it's just because they're scared at the quality of the forum or that the Threedy Forum members will blast their members out of the ball park if they accept the challenge.
Them's fighting words!!
Hope some come to the party but if not, we have enough quality here to keep the challenges fresh!

Loving all the suggested challenges. Still reckon a carnival freak show theme would work. Could have bearded ladies, elephant men, wolfboy, strongman, siamese twins etc etc.
