I would stay clear of the schools that flood your TV with advertisements trying to sell you on their curriculum using buzz words like "Video Game Design". You are basically going to be teaching yourself and if you're like most of us who to some degree wind up doing that anyways, you should at least go somewhere that expands your artistic horizons a little more.

Google is flooded with advertisements for many less than stellar schools so you're going to have to dig to find the good ones local to you. Since you seem to be in the LA Area, here's a list that should be enough to get you started off the top of my head:

Otis College of Art and Design
Laguna College of Art and Design
Cal State Fullerton
Cal State Northridge
Art Institute of OC,
Art Institute of LA
Cal Arts
Loyola Marymount Univeristy
USC

These are just a few schools in the LA region that have curriculums that would be worth looking into, though I'm probably missing more in the area. A lot of working professionals have gone to places like Full Sail, Savanah Art College, VFS, and Gnomon, and for good reason, they produce great work, but it's not like some unwritten law you have to attend one of these schools to break in.

Linkedin is also your best friend here. See where the studios your interested in working for hire their talent from, especially their junior artists.
