I checked on a swedish forum what they tought what the right price for 3d work.
Well i couldnt find a correct answaer but, a studio would probably take 40+ per hour for it, and people who are new to the industry would be around 15 per hour.

The minimum payment here in sweden is about 8 per hour, for a fulltime job, But i would say that most people earn around 10

But as a freelancer you have to count in. Taxes, computers, software etc.

I also checked another swedish forum for Illustrations "Svenska Tecknare" And they have target prices, on their site, An illustrator in sweden, should take around 60 per hour of work. But 60% of the pay goes to taxes and other fees.

as for this character its about 2 days work . or a few in the evenings .

minimum wage is probably now over 6 an hour in the uk.

a graduate CG type with no experience can expect to be paid around 9-10 an hour (18-20k pa).
an experienced lead artist can negotiate double that.

freelancers charge more per hour for two reasons.
1: it still doesn't cost the company any more because they don't have to pay taxes etc. on an employee.
2: they dont know for sure whether they'll be working next week and have to plan for it.

to put things in perspective in terms of cost of living..

a mortgage on a fairly average priced 3 bedroom house in the south east costs around 40 per day(including weekends)
petrol is 1.30 per litre (1.35 for the good stuff)
1 pint of beer is 3.00 to 3.50

if you earn less than 100 per day over here you can't afford to eat unless you're living with your mum.

there are people that live with their mom?

i would move to UK for that beginner pay - the prices of mortgage come almost between half of and full amount of the price you mentioned, but the pay is around 1/3 of mentioned (talking about beginners pay)

but you can get a pint for 1.00 and less of we're not talking about a pub pint, and petrol is on the raise but still 0.9

point being, come to Croatia and drink beer

OK i can see this post has turned into a debate about costing *which is fine by me because its obviously to touchy subject. so is it wrong to pay someone pennies from another country to do the same job ?
i my self work for 50 a day cash at the Moe only because there's no work about in the UK

and it dosent look like iam going to get this project done with less than around 1000 then ? uk pay

there's absolutely nothing wrong to pay pennies and to outsource your work. i think you may see it as pennies to others it's a month pay. I think bobi (forum member) could be the better judge but in Serbia, people work for 300€ a month. Now if you can find some artist i think he will do just about anything for a value suitable for you to call it cheap.

Similar examples exist all over the world, use internet to your advantage and make use of it.

[QUOTE=rocneasta;835861] i think you may see it as pennies to others it's a month pay.

yeah i realize that. i myself don't feel comfortable paying someone pennies in English pounds sterling from another country because i would feel as if i had robbed then almost, even though that wouldn't be the case.

I was just trying to illustrate the need for the kind of pricing you get in the uk compared to eastern europe or further afield - the cost of living is wildly different, ergo the daily rates are wildly different.

realistically you could probably get that work done here for a couple of hundred quid if you found somebody who needed the work, were clever with your negotiation and weren't expecting pixar quality or an immediate turnaround.

I (as does anyone else who wants to do 3d in the UK) have an obvious vested interest in keeping as much work in the country as possible but I can't argue that it makes sense to abroad for projects such as this - especially in the current economic climate.

Yeah Poopipe is right, freelancing for stuff like this is going to cost you at least that amount in the UK if you want a good job done. I would expect more for rigging for animation too.

I do but last time we hired him he wanted 400 a day

honestly though - that sort of thing is actually not hard to set up as a one off, it's just quite time consuming.

Setting up the fancy controls is the sort of thing I'd look at doing myself if I were working to a tight budget -it depends on your level of knowledge really though i suppose.

Athey Moravetz has a basic example of how it works at the end of this tutorial

right my comments on this are simple.. anyone offering a low low price.. probably doesnt have the skill you would require for the job you have in hand..

i mean the model of character depending on your character i would charge about 200 - 300... perhasp.... as for the rigging, mapping, and what not.. thats were it gonna add up your price..

now i would estimate that 500 - 600 would be a fair price on what are after, with all the mapping, all the textures. all the rigging,, and not to mention the rendering..

**** there are people out there charging 500 just for the rendering..
