SMC M#04 - Japo - SdKfz 251/25

Hello
Just making this palceholder. Started this afternoon and hoping to make it in time.

Since I am rendering, let me tell you what it is. 251 Hanomag was a model of german APC during WW2. Because of its versatility, it has been used for various tasks, and outfitted with almost anything there was. So there was anti tank version, anti aircraft, flamethrower... and engineer.

My ficticious solar ice drill is an engineering unit consisting of three vehicles. First vehicle is outfitted with the "drill", two other are outfitted with mirrors. Since the topic is "solar ice drilling machine," I used the fact that sun is hot and ice can melt. So the "drill" is only a array of lenses that focus sunlight into a light beam that in turn melts the ice. Mounted on SdKfz 251 it can be packed up and redeployed on another location. Mirrors can be positioned independently and the drill has a "parabolic antena" to make a bigger target for mirrors.

My PC is doing all it can Dont gety our hopes too high. I have spent more time on model than on textures and scene. And the model looks pretty... mundane and ordinary. On the other hand... I have always wanted to model this vehicle. So it may not be a winning entry, but it makes me very happy

... well, I have spent more time on the scene, but I cant show the scene yet. Not with this entry. I wish I have done the entry first and scene later

If you mean in one afternoon, then yes. But I took breaks every hour.

As for the planning... I had this idea in my head from the very beginning, found some reference pictures at the start of the month. So it was pretty much only about transfer from my head into max

ps... if I did go 4 hours straight with no break, I would sidetrack or slow down.

I know how you feel. I cant model for long periods of time cus I get distracted sooo easily. This is me " pulling edges, extruding polygons, moving verticies.....OooOOoOoOOo new Naruto episode." or "OoooooOO a stick".

i get distracted by the most random things.

Thank you Like I said, I wish I started earlier, this is not how I wanted to present it. And not fully textured as I wanted it to be textured. There are decals missing, there is no ID number. I had difficulty with background...

Other than that the models are as intended, the feeling of the vehicle is totally as I intended it, model of the vehicle is the one I wanted.

Now that I think of it... I may be glad I didnt put the insignia in. We will see what next month brings. I may need another insignia for this vehicle after all

I dont get distracted like that. Unless I am listening to youtube, that can end up with me being on youtube longer and longer.

By sidetracking I mean losing focus of the objective and going deeper on a detail. For example when doing the treads and suspension, I may want to add more details that are not necessary for the final picture, I may start adding suspension, modelling accurate inner wheels, add rear doors which will never be in the scene... and before I know it 4 hours are gone and I have nice APC with no drill
Thats why I always chop up the 4 hours, set goals, and after each hour I stop, regroup, reorganize, and go for next battle. Only when doing it in one afternoon I have to do it all way faster.

*edit: I did actually sidetracked a bit. If you look at the wire, you will see the springs for front wheels, whcih are not at all visible

Its good you finished in time. Nice work as always Japo.

I agree, when I've been modelling for one hour or so I start to get hungry so I have to stop and eat some fruit or something.
