The textureing looks awesome. I think he could safely loose the net-skirt thing, it just doesn't really seem to have a purpose, since his junk is already covered. If you do keep it, I think it needs to be denser (eg the squares should be half the size.)

This is still my favourite! and the texturing blows my mind, he really does look wet, and his skin looks translucent. Awesome!

just popping in to steal some ideas so I thought I'd say hello

the texture is looking superb now but I think lampshadehead is right to mention the netting as it's not looking right yet. I'd say you want to keep it and go for a sort of rough fishing net look. he's obvioulsy a bit amphibious and theres already a fish theme so it'll fit in fine

again - great. I'm going to harass you for workflow advice once this mess is over

Updates...

Okay so I was going to do ALL the texture maps tonight, but I'm tired, so I'll just call this DIFFUSE map done.. the spec and normal maps are the same as before, but the texture has been tweaked, various parts completed, etc. I changed the netting, although I haven't tweaked the opacity, so it doesn't reflect the edges correctly.

If anyone thinks that there are more tweaks to be made, etc, please let me know, I'd appreciate it, although I reserve the the right to say no, heheh.

Anyways, I'm headin home. Good night everyone.

looking good. I think you need more contrast in your diffuse map, and your spec or glossy is too strong, he looks wet. just my opinion, good luck you have a strong model and its different than most of the entries i've seen.

Thx for the feedback everyone... Wassum, I'm glad you think it looks wet, because it's supposed to! He's supposed to be real slimy.
I'll up the contrast a bit, but in the meantime I need everyone's VERY HONEST OPINIONS on this lamp... I'm gonna go home and work on the pedestal tonight, but I'm toying with ways to make the lamp obviously magical... remember, it's power is that it spreads DARKNESS, not light, so I need to figure out a way to convey that, which is hard, since this is a low poly model. Do ppl like what I have this looking like, or no? Suggestions?

Very nice. I liked the look of the lamp before. I think that you do need to add a glow to it but more subtlety. Mayby remove the candle and light can enter via the mouth which in turn gives the lamp power. A bit like a vaccum. At the moment, the glow looks like someones draw over it with a florecent blue marker. But the old lamp looked pretty good and suited your character more. On the whole though, awesome texture.

you're absolutely right... it looks like highlighter... tomorrow I'll rework it, make the glow much whiter and less bright, and peaking around the mouth probably. Anyone got any idea of how to easily make this thing seem like it's sucking the light around it?

Love the blue on that lamp...I actually like how tight the glow on it is, doesn't look to much like highlighter to me, just looks very vibrant. Might be nice to try and get a couple of those vibrant colour elements into your texture here and there.

If you're trying to convay the "dark" theme I might aim for a more dark purple colour though...I think that's generally associated with "dark" power. I really like the blue as is, but if you need that dark look, deep purple may be the way to go.

I like where you've gone with this. The textures are looking great. The necklace, with the fins is a nice touch, and I think the net tho it may not serve any particular purpose, adds to the aesthetic of the character nicely. Adding the eye to the tattoo was a nice way to keep the logo, but make it yours at the same time.

I'm about torn on the lamp, with all the blue. I think it looks good close up, but I think from a distance it might get a little a too busy, maybe simplify the blue lines on it.

As for the absorbing of light, the only thing I can think of if you have some polys left, is make a few black planes, that fade out where you want it to absorbing. Kinda like an inverse glow.

Lookin' really good all around.

I believe using a light with a negative value is within the rules - it might give you the sort of effect you're after .

in terms of the glow - I think you need to thin and roughen the bright colour areas in your glow map out a bit so there's black/very dark blue around them (I've used black inner glow layer effect on my character's runes )
