Question How to create cartoon 3D objects

Hi there everyone, I'm new to modeling, for some reason I decided to start with cartoonish objects. I came across the article https://80.lv/articles/modeling-mediaval-town-in-3d/, where one popular cartoon modeler tells some tricks. He says that lines should not be straight, but objects must be larger than in reality.

Actually the question:
How can I create beautiful things from rectangular boxes?
I have an environment in my brain that I want to create in 3ds max, should I start drafting with straight lines? Specifically, I want to create a castle.
