Soapy - Unearthly Space Car - 3D Vehicle

OK, I am in on this one. My vehicle will be a space car/ship. The type of vehicle you might use for bombing around the surface of a small planet or asteroid and also make short jumps into orbit or even out to nearby moons. It will be built in the style of a Hotwheels redline classic toy. Which is in keeping with most of the work I do.

Concept sketch

Here is a first sketch of the concept. The car will be something like this or not... A little bit retro with lots of chrome. No doubt there will be many adjustments as the model evolves.

Baby steps here on the modelling, just a wheel to look at today. In keeping with the dinky toy styling it is pretty smooth and has a funky ridge down the middle.

Got a little start on the model. Many of the parts will be modular and interchangeable. For instance the cab can be removed from the car and bolted onto a submersible.

More modeling work and a few design changes. Added the manipulator arm, although the claw will be rebuilt if it stays. Also put on some shaders on so it is a little nicer to look at. Lots to do.

Well I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that I sort of forgot this was a low poly contest and mostly modelled with wild abandon and so made a wreck. The good news is that at least half the parts were modelled in a relatively polygon thrifty manner so those can be saved. All the engine components are good and parts of the cab. But the frame and lower parts of the model including the wheels gotta go. Since I am rebuilding those I suspect there will be some design changes to save polys and just for fun.
