Cornell Box

A test: one is real and one is not. You decide.

Well if I had to choose, the one on the left is fake? Or both are real, either way, this just goes to show that 3d is a level where we can create such illusions.

The right one is real...and left one should be fake. But its confusing, there are many factors. The main thing im looking at is the lightbulb.

I think there is some GI artifacts on the right picture, and I think I have the same .ies file used for the bulb. Looks like a lamp-armature is missing, looking at the diffuse light emitted from the very same bulb.

My guess is that the left picture is the real cornell box.

Cheers

left is real, the geometry on the left pic is higher detailed than on the right :P
also i think the left bulb illuminates in a more realistic way.

what renderer did you use btw?

I would really laugh my bum off if the finaly answer came as "they are both CG" or "They are both photos"

it is very interesting to see all of the comments. It seems to be splitting about 50/50 on the poll. I am going to remain quite for a couple more days, and than I will give away all the details about this.

The one in the left is real, the one in the right is CG. First of all because the details are much more refined in the left one, but mostly because of the reflections in the wall.. You can notice they are real because they aren't uniform, but very glossy, pretty much about what plastic paint would be.
It is, though amazing to see how similar they are! Congrats

the left one is fake, you should be seeing a small shadow at the middle of the white back wall due to the shape of the lamp.

I can also notice that the edges of the gray boxes are too sharp on the left one.

I guess you are using maxwell right? I say this not because of artefacts cause I cant see none, but because it is so good at its lighting, you can see how well it reproduces photons and shadows, you can see that even the most difused shadow on the photo is present on the render
